Host a Primary Schools Autism Awareness Day in April

2 April 2013 has been declared World Autism Day. To commemorate this day Action in Autism have planned activities to raise awareness and support for people living with autism or autistic spectrum disorders.

There is still very little known about this condition yet more and more children are being diagnosed on the autistic spectrum. Some of the known facts of autism are that all people with autism have impairments in social interaction, social communication and imagination.

We are currently lobbying schools to host an Autism Awareness Day which aims to increase awareness about neurological difference and ultimately create a more caring, inclusive society. It is also highly educational and informative. We kindly request that you host an Autism Civvies Day to raise awareness and much needed funds for the community of people living with Autism Spectrum Disorder in KwaZulu Natal. We will provide the school with stickers that can be sold at the civvies day to raise much needed funds to allow us to continue the pivotal work we do, viz. an early learning intervention centre and a walk in resource and support centre. We will also provide a story on how to become a friend with someone with Autism. In addition, a parent of a child with autism will come through to address learners.

Stickers and a story ‘How to be a Friend with Someone with Autism” can be picked up from the Action in Autism Centre. Please download the letter to Principals to Primary Schools below:
