An Early Learning Intervention Centre

childrenIn line with our objectives to provide resources for children with autism, Action in Autism has established an Early Learning Intervention and Educational Centre for Infants and Children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. This was established as a pilot programme for the government to emulate. It is the first early intervention centre in KwaZulu-Natal that caters for learners with autism.

The Board of Management of the Early Learning Intervention Centre is comprised of:

  • Chair: Paediatric Neurologist, Dr. L. Mubaiwa;
  • Chair of Action in Autism: Liza Aziz;
  • Speech-Lang Pathologist: Saira Karim;
  • Principal of the Early Learning Intervention Centre: Moyra Duchenne;
  • Advocate: Enver Mullah;
  • Educator: Kirsten Miller;
  • Parent: Dr. Shaima Memon.

The centre makes available to our most needy families an intensive intervention programme for children aged 2-6 years.

  • We offer an individualised, trans professional team approach to the education of children with autism.
  • We offer a child and family oriented  approach to ensure 25 hours a week of active engagement.
  • We offer quarterly parent meetings to empower parents / caregivers with practical strategies; to build knowledge and skills and reaffirm and reassess knowledge and skills.
  • We encourage parent to parent and parent to professional networking and support.
